SEPTIC INSPECTION PROGRAM ADVOCACY

Winter 2020-2021, Spring Summer 2021

The issue of septic pollution in Lake George has long been one of concern. Residents around the lake, in partnership with other alarmed advocates formulated a task force to compile talking points requesting from the state and the Lake George Park Commission action to create a lakewide septic inspection program. Contact us for further information about our ongoing efforts to gain attention and action in this critical outreach to officials and agencies. Posted below are copies of the original letter to Governor Cuomo and supporters and also the response letter of the Governor via the executive director of the Lake George Park Commission, Dave Wick. GETTING IN THE WATER OURSELVES!

Residential participation is critical in saving water quality and  includes attendance at Lake George Park Commission meetings, Town of Queensbury meetings and workshops and organizing locally and lakewide.

In 2017 Assembly Point residents attended planning and zoning board meetings to question the construction of an outsized home requiring variances, located on the ridge line of the Point. Issues of erosion control, placement of septic system, aesthetics and scale were raised since impact would be seen below the ridge line at the backs of properties below and along Assembly Point Road (please note photos to the left);  alternative proposals for better implementation of stormwater management were also suggested. . Residential awareness of very local impact can be key input and should be part of every new construction.
APWQC residents initiated a meeting with town officials about site plan review policies, asking for revisions  on town policies for all new development.

APWQC residents initiated a petition in spring of 2017 expressing widespread concern, not only on Assembly Point, but around the lake as to the expansion of the Harris Bay Yacht Club. (note petition to the left)
